The Center for the Development of Peace and Well-Being

The Small Schools Workshop at University of Illinois, Chicago

International Organizations

There are a growing number of social emotional educational centers around the world. Here is a list of organizations outside of the United States.

Center for Social and Emotional Learning (CESEL), Denmark
Founded in April of 1999, CESEL is comprised of a Danish network of educators, scientists, policy makers, and concerned citizens to increase people's awareness regarding the need for, and the positive effects of, systematic educational efforts to promote the social and emotional learning of children and young people. CESEL's primary goals are to facilitate the implementation, evaluation, and improvement of comprehensive social and emotional education, beginning in preschool and continuing through high school. CESEL recently published Trin for Trin ("step by step"), the first Danish program for structured implementation of SEL in schools. CESEL will develop field information requests from interested schools, provide implementation advice and support, and host teacher training sessions. CESEL initiates systematic reports from implementation in schools and kindergartens. http://www.cesel.dk/

International Association for Applied Psychoanalytic Studies (IAAPS)
The IAAPS is an organization dedicated to the application of psychodynamic principles to everyday social problems and their practical solution. Their mission is to build peaceful communities through interdisciplinary, collaborative approaches to violence prevention and social services, and through a scholarly and creative examination of community and socio-cultural issues. The IAAPS is devoted to creating a platform for psychoanalytic and other mental health professionals being teachers and learners with educators, after-school professionals and parents. www.iaaps.org

Promoting Social Competence Project, Scotland
Keith Topping, Project Director
The Scottish Executive (formerly the Scottish Office Education and Industry Department) appointed the project team to help promote social competence in education. Promoting social competence includes identifying and delivering effective curriculum-based approaches to enhance the personal, social, and emotional competencies and development of all pupils in primary and secondary schools. Youth Education Service (YES) of the New Zealand Police, New Zealand
Developed by the Youth Education Service (YES) of the New Zealand Police, working in close association with Specialist Education Services, "Kia Kaha" is a whole school approach to eliminate bullying. It aims to help schools create environments where everyone feels safe, respected and valued, and where bullying cannot flourish. The HOPE Foundation helps to develop and support educational leaders
