School Safety Agents
School Safety Agents play an essential role in many public schools. In collaboration with the late Deputy Commissioner James Fyfe and the New York Police Department, CSEE has developed a four day workshop for School Safety Agents (SSA) that provides information, strategies and practical responses for the many diverse challenges they face from their first day on the job.
A primary aim for this training is to promote SSA's understanding of the social and emotional foundations for safe schools and to further develop social and emotional competencies that promote a safe learning environment within the school. The workshop series focuses on four dimensions:
- The SSA as police/educator;
- Promoting flexible and creative problem solving abilities: A foundation for safe schools;
- Learning to recognize and helpfully use 'teachable moments' with students, fellow SSA's and teachers, other school staff and parents to promote safe schools and school connectedness;
- Learning about child and adolescent development to support SSA's understanding and being more able to "connect" with middle and high school students.
